Find where attention turns into action.

Review page interaction patterns with DATALYR heatmaps, then connect the observations to the conversion journey you are trying to improve. Use aggregate behavior to choose where to investigate next.

Compare plans and usage

A busy page is not necessarily a converting page.

Interaction patterns can reveal whether visitors engage with the parts of a page you expect them to use. Heatmaps provide an aggregate lens, while events and revenue show the outcomes. Together they help teams ask better questions about a landing page without assuming that more clicks or deeper scrolling automatically means better business performance.

Website heatmaps for funnel analysis

Focus on one page

Choose a stable landing page and a clear question about its layout. Mixing unrelated pages or revisions can blur the pattern you are trying to understand.

Look for action mismatches

Compare the interaction pattern with the intended next step. Unexpected attention on a decorative element can be worth investigating alongside low engagement with a useful control.

Pair with conversion evidence

Use a funnel or event report to check whether observed engagement leads to a meaningful outcome. Visual attention by itself is not a revenue metric.

The workflow

From setup to a useful answer.

  1. Select a useful page sample

Confirm heatmap data is available for the page and device context you want to inspect. Note substantial layout changes that could affect interpretation.

  2. Review the interaction pattern

Look for repeated behavior around navigation, key controls and content. Write a specific hypothesis rather than treating the heatmap as a design verdict.

  3. Measure a controlled change

Change one meaningful element and compare the relevant outcome. Keep traffic quality and acquisition mix in mind when interpreting a before-and-after result.

Verify the result

Know what good looks like.

  • The heatmap corresponds to the page version being reviewed.
  • Desktop and mobile layouts are interpreted separately.
  • The chosen success metric measures an outcome beyond attention.

A few practical questions.

Are heatmaps a replacement for session replay?

No. Heatmaps summarize interaction patterns across available data. Replay helps inspect individual sequences. Use the format that best answers the current question.

Does a popular element need to be moved higher?

Not necessarily. First check what that element does and whether the interaction supports conversion. A design change should follow a hypothesis, not a color alone.
